Leonard Reid House

The Leonard Reid House is the first home for the new Sarasota African American Art Center and History Museum designed by a group of students through Ringling College of Art and Design.

The house was originally built in 1926 by Leonard Reid who was born in Greenwood, South Carolina, in 1881. Reid was known as one of Sarasota's influential pioneer Black settlers and an icon in the community after he arrived in 1900. The house was then redesigned in 2021 to honor Sarasota’s African American community and includes a historical timeline, a model of the city highlighting sections of the African American community, and a revolving art installation for local African American artists.

Greta and one other student were chosen to present their design to the board of the Sarasota African American Art Center and History Museum and was received with rave reviews.
